As we all find ourselves locked away in our homes to stay safe from this terrible virus sweeping across the globe, the ever-present question remains – What will I do to keep myself busy?
I am lucky to be living in a house with five other people. We are all quite artistic, each in our own way. So, we decided we must keep busy and do something else than the normal routine of waking up, breakfast, work, lunch, work, exercise, dinner, TV, bed and then it all starts again the next day. How monotonous… And how we changed it, was by doing some makeup!
I got to do three of my five roomies’ makeup. I asked them all to choose their own makeup look and I will put my own twits on it – as each makeup artists style is unique. It went down like this –
Anande
My first “client” of the day. Anande is always one to try new and exciting things. She chose a beauty inspired look. One with boldness yet a lot of femininity. She loves Japan and the culture. So, this look also had some Asian inspiration to it. I used shades of pinkish orange. Doing an exaggerated look. For the eyeshadow I started with a lighter more pinkish shade on her eyelid and as I moved to the outside of her eye, I started deepening the shade to orange. This was then blended all the way to her temples and down to her cheek bone. Then say hallo to the cat eye! All good makeup looks end with a dramatic cat eyeliner, I believe. For her lips, I mixed some of the eyeshadow with Vaseline and blended it from the inside outwards.
Bernie
This is our bride-to-be in the house. She will be getting married in August this year. She has a good sense of fashion – always pushing the boundaries of “normal”. Her wedding is going to be one for the books. Her wedding dress and shoes will have an elegant feel to them. Then obviously it comes down to hair and makeup to give her the flair she desires! For her hair she will be doing some loose curls, very 1920’s feel to it. I am also honoured to be doing her hair for this occasion. This was her first trial for wedding makeup, and we chose to go BOLD! I did a cut crease on her as she has always wanted to try this. I used shades of mauve and some glitter, obviously. She loves a cat eye, so I gave her an overly dramatic cat eye with the glitter liner parallel to the normal black liner. It was elegant but with a real boldness to it. On her lips we used a deep burnt brownish red colour. We have a way to go as we are going to do more trials. I guess that is another plus point of living with a professional makeup artist.
Gustav
The queen of the house. I love doing Gustavs makeup as he loves bold colours and stretching the limits of makeup. Never shying away from colour – he wanted pink, pink, PINK! Also, some glitter. Seeing a trend here? Like I said I live in a house full of artistic people. To create the bold pink colour, I had to prime the eyelid properly as well as use some concealer to enhance the pink. It takes a while to build up to the colour to be bright enough to be bold. There was also some purple in the mix of colours. A lot of blending was needed – blending is key to makeup! With a look like this, there is always some eyeshadow that falls on the foundation. In order to avoid this, I use some translucent powder underneath the eye. This prevents any “staining”. After the eyeshadow was applied and I was more or less finished, I got out my glitter eyeliner and did a cat eyeliner to finish off the look.
We will definitely be doing some more makeup looks during the lockdown. Then it is my turn to choose what looks I want to do. Already started planning!
