When we think of winterizing our routines to make sure we survive the cold, we often just think of switching over our wardrobe and vamping up our hair routine (static and dry air sucks!). But what about our makeup? Besides purchasing yet another moisturizer and making sure to amp-up our lip balm collection, we also need to think about our foundation!
With winter around the corner, you might need to shake-up your makeup routine!

Go Lighter.
The first main reason we need to switch out our foundation is your change in skin-tone! During the sunny-seasons we all like to flaunt our sun-kissed skin, but when we say goodbye to the sunny days, we have to say goodbye to our tans too. Why not go into M.A.C or Urban Decay and let them match you with the correct foundation for the cold months ahead.

Dry Skin
You have probably already noticed that your skin has become super dry since winter hit. That is completely normal! But besides slathering on an extra layer of moisturizer (potentially creating a greasy coat over your skin) every morning, or doing a full-on deep moisturizing mask every day, you could switch to a moisturizing foundation.

Check for SPF Protection.
Sunscreen should be considered a pillar in your summer beauty routine. From science-talk about the damaging effects of UV rays to the painful sunburns that can cause a nasty welt, SPF protection is a must! But a lot of people tend to stop their sunscreen use when temperatures drop, and the days grow shorter. The thing is you shouldn’t!
The sun’s UV intensity is still the same during the winter, and it can cause long-term damage to your body’s largest organ—skin cancer is not a joke! Invest in a good foundation with SPF 30+.
All and all, here are our tips on what to look out for when choosing a foundation for winter:
- Swap your mattifying foundation for a dewy foundation. As shine isn’t a major concern in the winter, you can embrace a more radiant glow without the fear of an oil slick.
- Choose a foundation with adequate hydration, one that will inject your skin with the moisture shot it needs.
- Stay away from anything too powdery as powder can make your skin look duller. We recommend using a CC cream that is one shade warmer than you skin tone.

- Switch up your primer to a more luminous primer rather than the traditional matte one. The subtle shimmer in the primer will help give your skin that amazing “glowing-from-within” effect.
- Lastly and most important Never Stop Moisturising! If you notice your skin getting dry (or your makeup getting cakey) throughout the day, keep a facial mist nearby to spray on a dose of hydration.
